Michael K. Heck, D.O.

Michael Heck

Dr. Michael Heck is board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Heck’s expertise primarily lies in the realm of ADHD and Autism. He has over a decade of experience providing telemedicine services to patients all over Virginia, as well as other states. Dr. Heck serves as Medical Director of ChildHelp, a residential treatment program for traumatized children, and is adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Heck received his B.S. in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated summa cum laude. He then received his degree in osteopathic medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. He then returned home to Charlottesville where he completed his residency in General Psychiatry and his fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Virginia. While at UVA, Dr. Heck participated in academic research on video games, authoring a presentation on gaming that was presented at the American Psychiatric Association national conference.

After completing his training at UVA, Dr. Heck founded Treehouse Child Psychiatry with the goal of providing quality, evidenced-based, and personalized mental health care to children with ADHD and Autism from all over Virginia.

Dr. Heck is a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, and has lived in Charlottesville since 1985. He has a passion for reducing mental health stigma and educating patients, parents, and the public about mental health. He enjoys playing and recording music (guitar, drums, piano), playing guitar in a 90’s cover band (“Supervixen”) with his therapist/vocalist wife, playing video games, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family.
